Safety Messages
May 2015
Please welcome and give all your support to NCOL's new State Coordinator, Margaret Cannell. It has been a pleasure to have served NCOL as interim state coordinator since the beginning of February; after just one week of helping her transition into this position, I know the organization is in very capable hands.

Volunteers: Please take a minute to email your state coordinator with a list of upcoming presentations or events in which you expect to participate during May and June, 2015. Include the date, location, type of presentation, and audience profile and number of participants. For example: May 13, Apex, Anti- Trespassing, Middle School Students, 30. Thanks.

NC Operation Lifesaver and NCDOT BeRailSafe have recently agreed to more closely coordinate their activities and cooperate on joint ventures to better and more quickly train first responders, educate private and professional drivers of all ages, and provide safety information to school children and college students in all grades and years.
Accordingly, we have added a special page to our website to feature the free training offered by BeRailSafe. Anyone interested in taking advantage of this offer may make a request either to BeRailSafe directly at www.berailsafe.org or through NC Operation Lifesaver.

I want to thank Vickie Miller for all her hard work at moving NCOL along to greater heights during her time as State Coordinator. As Acting State Coordinator for the next few months, I will make sure that Vickie's initiatives continue and that good communication to and from volunteers is maintained and improved if possible. The safety message is, of course, unchanged and the need for rail safety education for all age groups remains as important as ever. I look forward to meeting many of of you over the coming months.

Incidents and injuries can be prevented in every aspect of our lives. In traffic the choices you, the driver, make determine how safely and smoothly you move over the miles. We often encounter larger vehicles and pedestrians. The largest vehicle you can come in contact with is a train.
Operation Lifesaver's mission is to prevent collisions and injuries through education and information. Consider joining with our many Volunteers and Partners in sharing safety with your family and friends. We hope you enjoy our website and return again and again to find new and exciting ideas and information. Have a safe and productive New Year. This goes for 2015 as well. |
